Office Chairs
Buy and sell office chairs in Costa Rica.
Costa Rican shops still sort office chairs by rank, from the plain task chair through the mid-back model to the high-backed executive chair, but a newer shelf now stands beside them: the gamer chair, bought as often for a work-from-home desk as for a console. New and pre-owned office chairs both turn up, from basic mesh task chairs to fully adjustable ergonomic models and the odd Steelcase or Herman Miller. A good chair is mostly frame and mechanism, and the parts that wear out are standard, so a used one with a tired gas lift is often nearer a bargain than scrap.

Gamer chairs against mesh ergonomic chairs:
the two are built for different bodies. A gamer chair copies a racing seat, with padded wings at the shoulders and hips, a pillow and a lumbar cushion on straps, usually in leatherette. The wings feel snug on a slim teenager and pinch anyone broader. A mesh ergonomic chair trades padding for adjustment: a seat that slides forward and back, lumbar support you raise to the curve of your own back, and arms that slide and swivel as well as rise. Seats for the table at home are under dining chairs, and the surface the chair has to tuck under is in desks.
Synchro tilt, seat depth and casters on a tile floor:
these decide whether a chair still feels right by mid-afternoon. A basic tilt tips the whole seat back from a pivot near the front, lifting your knees as you lean. A synchro mechanism reclines the backrest further than the seat, so your feet stay flat, and on a chair used all day it is the upgrade worth paying for. On seat depth, with your back against the backrest a few fingers should fit between the seat edge and your knee. Most Costa Rican homes are floored in ceramic or porcelain tile, and the hard nylon casters on cheaper chairs skate across it and grind grit into the glaze. Rubber-tread casters roll quietly and stay put when you stand up.
A gamer chair and a mesh chair at the same money:
new, a plain mesh task chair starts at around ₡40,000, while a gamer chair and a mesh ergonomic chair with a sliding seat and adjustable lumbar sit in much the same band, roughly ₡100,000 to ₡200,000. They age differently. Leatherette cracks and flakes at the seat edge and on the arm pads, and once a gamer chair starts peeling it is hard to sell at any price. A mesh or fabric ergonomic chair keeps its value because the money went into the frame and mechanism, which outlast everything bolted to them. Steelcase, Haworth and Herman Miller chairs cost far more new and hold their value best of all, which is why they get copied.
The gas lift, the mechanism and the star base:
are where a used office chair shows its age, from cheapest fault to dearest. Raise the seat to the top, sit down heavily and give it a minute; a seat that creeps down has a tired gas lift. That part is standard on almost every chair, gamer chairs included, and a pipe wrench and a rubber mallet swap it, so take its cost off your offer rather than walking away. A mechanism that clunks, will not lock or lets the back flop is the serious fault, because it is specific to that chair. Turn it over and look where the legs of a nylon base meet the hub, where cracks start, and spin every caster. Press the mesh: it should spring back evenly, with no slack or fraying along the frame. An Aeron or an Embody offered cheaply deserves a look under the seat for the Herman Miller label.
Work-from-home chairs coming out of the spare room:
plenty were bought in a hurry for a home desk and outlived the arrangement. Put the brand and model from the label under the seat in the title, along with the words buyers search by: gamer, ergonomic, mesh, executive. Say plainly whether the seat holds its height and every lever works, and if you have already replaced the gas lift or the casters, say so; it reads as care, not damage. Photograph the front, side, back and underneath, then the seat edge and arm pads close up in daylight. Someone coming from San Pedro to collect in Tres Ríos will ask whether it fits in a car. With the base tapped off the gas lift, most office chairs lie across a back seat, while a tall gamer chair wants a hatchback with the rear seats folded.
